You can now update Kindle Fire HD 7″ to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with the help of custom ROM. Developer BuQQzz (donate) recently shared Android 5.0.2 Lollipop based BeanStalk 5.0. However, this is an early build and all BeanStalk 5.0 features most likely not ported yet but will surely give you many customization. Right now, this is the only way to upgrade your Kindle Fire HD 7″ to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop since we yet to have an official Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware for Kindle Fire HD 7″. Its easy to install this custom ROM, all you have to do, install a custom recovery such as CWM recovery or TWRP recovery and then follow below guide.

Pre Requisites:

2. Make sure your device have enough battery power (at least 50% battery power) to avoid any accidental brick. You can install an app like Battery Notifier BT Free on your Android device to check it easily.

3. You must have USB Driver Installed for Kindle Fire HD 7″ in your PC. If you manage to access your phone data after connecting to your computer then you already have USB driver installed. [Download Driver Manually]

4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled otherwise it’s won’t be possible to transfer file between PC and Kindle Fire HD 7″. By default its enabled, so you don’t have to worry. [General Guide]

  1. BeanStalk 5.0 (unofficial Build) For Kindle Fire HD 7″ [Filename: BeanStalk-5.0005-20141227-tate.zip]
  2. Google Apps [Filename: gapps-lp-20141109-signed.zip]
  3. SuperSu [Filename: BETA-SuperSU-v2.41.zip]

How to Install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop based BeanStalk 5.0 ROM on Kindle Fire HD 7″

  1. Transfer downloaded file to your Android device by connecting to PC. Make sure you copied all files on SD Card (avoid coping within folder). Important: Don’t extract any files.
  2. Disconnect your device from computer and then turn off your Kindle Fire HD 7″.
  3. Now, boot into recovery mode. To do so, turn on your device and during bootloader splash screen (blue Kindle logo), press Power repeatedly to open boot menu and move selection from Normal Boot to Recovery.

  4. First of all create an image of your existing OS by performing Nandroid backup of your existing ROM which you can restore later if this new ROM don’t perform the way you want or if there any glitch. To do so, select Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to main recovery menu after backup is complete.
  5. Now, perform data wiping task. To perform this, select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait few minutes till the data wipe is complete. Now come back to CWM recovery main menu. Select wipe cache partition and after wiping process done, select Wipe Dalvik Cache under advance option to perform Dalvik cache wiping. Perform this step 3 times to avoid any bootloop issue.
  6. Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Now, locate the SuperSu Zip file that you copied earlier in Step 1 and select it by pressing Power button. Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install _____.zip on the next screen.
  7. Once the above installation process end, repeat the Step 6 but choose the BeanStalk ROM Zip file instead of SuperSu zip to install the ROM.
  8. Once the ROM installation process end, repeat the Step 6 again to flash SuperSU one more time.
  9. Once done, repeat the Step 6 but choose the gapps-lp-20141109-signed.zip file instead of SuperSu zip to install the Google apps package.
  10. When installation is completed, perform the Step 4 one more time and then go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot your Kindle Fire HD 7″ and boot into Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM BeanStalk 5.0 (unofficial Build).
  11. Returning to Previous ROM: To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, select backup and restore then restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.

Tutorial For TWRP Recovery Users:

  1. Transfer downloaded file to your Android device by connecting to PC. Make sure you copied all files on SD Card (avoid coping within folder). Important: Don’t extract any files.

  4. Create a Backup using TWRP Backup Option.
  5. Perform a Factory Reset (this will delete all apps and their settings and game progress). To do this, Tap on Wipe, then at the bottom of the screen do a Swipe on the ‘Swipe to factory reset‘ option.
  6. Now add zip file for flashing. to do so, tap on Install, then browse to the location where you saved the files and tap on the SuperSU Zip file. Then tap on Add More Zips, and add BeandStalk Zip, SuperSu Zip and gapps-lp-20141109-signed.zip respectively. Now at the bottom of the screen, do a swipe on the Swipe to confirm flash option to begin flashing.
  7. When installation is completed, go back to the main recovery menu and tap on Reboot and then, tap on System to reboot your Kindle Fire HD 7″ and boot into Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM BeanStalk 5.0 (unofficial Build).
  8. Returning to Previous ROM: To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, select Backup then through Restore option, restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.
